The article searches into the formation of German-Soviet relations during 1917–1922 and the implementation of the idea of peaceful coexistence of the countries with different social and economic systems. The diplomatic activities of the two countries resulted in the Treaty of Rapallo, which was the first step on the way to the full recognition of the RSFSR by Western countries and gave the young state an opportunity to become a full member of international communication.
