The article deals with the problem of xenophobia in the Anglo-Russian relations dating back to the reign of Ivan the Terrible, who established diplomatic and economic ties between Britain and Russia. Russian xenophobia had natural sources being triggered off by the «westernization» of the political elite. While English xenophobia was roused artificially, being a part of British foreign policy.
