The paper deals with demonic characters which appear in A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s cycle of novels «The Red Wheel». A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s demon-characters represent antiideal personality traits. The characters are used by the author to reveal his understanding of historic processes. The writer believes that ideology destroys the evolutionary development of history bringing about tragedy and destruction. Among A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s demons there are those who fight for forcible reorganization of society, revolutionists. Almost all of them view the world through the prism of revolution, they deny Christian values, they worship material treasures and discard spiritual ones. Relying on A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s attitude to his characters and on the intensity of negative features in them, the author of the article singles out three subtypes of demons.
