Voluntary Practices in Pre-Revolutionary Russia P. 29-34.

The paper treats voluntary participation in nationwide census which took place in the Russian Empire in 1987. The author focuses on the cooperation of different local organizations and institutions aimed at the coordination of census enumerators, who worked on a voluntary basis. The author per-forms social-demographic and quantity analyses of census enumerators of the Kursk region, who suc-cessfully coped with their work. The article describes the process of training volunteers for maintaining census-related activities in a detailed way, starting with the recruiting activities and finishing with training sessions (the introduction into census enumeration, the establishment of rules for census enumeration, the establishment of rules for form filling, etc.). The paper analyzes the specific methods used by census enumerators.
