The Dynamics of Side Erosion of the Concave Banks of the Oka River in its Middle Course in the 19th – 20th Centuries and Nowadays . C. 155-164.

The paper shows the rate of river bank erosion in the Ryazan inundated floodway extension of the middle course of the Oka River during the last 160 years and during 2014–2016 in important places. GIS technology is used to compare the location of the Oka bed on a modern topographic map and on A. Mendeʼs (Alexander Mende is a Russian mapmaker (1800–1868)). The benchmark method is used to determine the dynamics of concave slope surface structure in different parts of the Oka bends. The analysis of Ryazan inundated floodway shows the amount of alluvial deposits accumulated in a river channel during 160 years. The article analyzes the volume of soil which has been eroded during 160 years and the rate of fluvial morpholithogenesis. The comparative analysis of data acquired with the help of surface benchmark method and GIS technology shows that modern and historical rates of river bank erosion are different.
