Abstract. The article analyses ego-documents pertaining to the presence of Soviet and American military personnel in Vietnam during the Second Indochina War. It investigates daily routines of American and Soviet soldiers, compares their perception of military events, their motivation and morale. The research enables the authors to conclude that human factor played a decisive role in the military conflict in Vietnam.
