Doctor Faust in English: update image of Merlin in the 20th century literature. p. 99-109.

The paper focuses on the “roundabout” evolution (term introduced by Yu. Tynyanov) of the image of Doctor Faustus in German literature (from German folk tales to J.W. von Goethe’s play) and in English literature. The paper provides a comparative analysis of the images of Faustus and Merlin. It analyzes the role the image of Merlin plays in K.S. Lewis’ “The Space Trilogy” (aka “Cosmic Trilogy”).
