Abstract. The relevance of this article lies in the fact that art and, in particular, literature in its generalized and perfect images, captures the era, its most significant conflicts and the most characteristic figures. From people’s experience and images of the past, literature selects what cannot be preserved in a factual document. Thus, the historical memory of mankind will never forget the atrocities and heroic deeds of the past. Authors who created works in the era of fascism act as living witnesses in their texts, and this fully concerns the teenage girl Anne Frank. The goal of this research is to analyze the functioning of history and the image of the child against the background of the Holocaust in the work of A. Folman and D. Polonsky, Anne Frank’s Diary: A Graphic Version. The article is devoted to the topical phenomenon of modern culture, a picture book based on a literary work (in this case, on the diary entries of “Refuge” by A. Frank), the poetics of such a genre, its main features and structural principles. In their adaptation of  Anne Frank’s Diary, A. Folman and D. Polonsky (2018) do not only preserve the original author’s style, but also emphasize the comic attitude inherent in the graphic genre, despite the tragic theme of the Holocaust. The comic style of the adaptation does not contradict, but rather enhances the artistic concept of the original text.
