François Villon: reception of the French poet in Russia and his tradition in S. A. Yesenin’s series Tavern Moscow  P. 130 –140.

Abstract. The article provides an overview of fiction, journalism, and research devoted to the work and personality of F. Villon, and the influence of this French poet on Russian writers. The authors whose works are analyzed range from the 19th century to modern writers and scholars. The relevance of the topic is due to the currently increasing interest in French cultural influence on the works of S. A. Yesenin, which is part of a broader topic, “Yesenin and world literature.” We observe frequent comparisons of the works of Yesenin and Villon, which makes it necessary to expand the available information about the life and work of Villon and to generalize readers’ and writers’ estimation of the poet, in different generations. The study investigates judgements and works of N. S. Gumilev, O. E. Mandelstam, P. G. Antokolsky, B. Sh. Okudzhava, B. M. Smolensky, M. Golikova, and other figures about the personality and poetry of F. Villon are involved in the study. The purpose of this study is to determine the ways in which F. Villon’s work was represented in Russian culture, and continuation of this tradition in Yesenin’s cycle Tavern Moscow. We analyze images shared by The general images and motives in the works of Yesenin and Villon, among others, life in taverns and anti-urbanism.
