Abstract. The article analyzes the interconnection between McCarthyism as a unique event in the U.S. political history and Hollywood’s reaction to its manifestations in the late 1940s — the first half of the 1950s. The article analyzes the actions of the House Un-American Activities Committee (a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives) created to discredit a number of representatives of Hollywood. It also analyzes U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy’s actions in the 1950s.
