The paper treats the Churchills’ rise to power. John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough (1650–1722) entered history as a great commander and an outstanding politician. John Churchill’s highly successful career was in many respects predetermined by the time he lived in, the time which he expertly used for his purposes. His elder sister, Arabella, also contributed to the family’s rise to the top in the society.
