The article centers on Maxim Gorky’s early plays, such as «The Petty Bourgeois», «The Lower Depths», and «Summer Residents». It analyzes their social and philosophical problematics, their ideological and artistic originality, their architectonics, and their system of characters. The analysis reveals the major tendencies of M.Gorky’s works in the early 20th century.
