The Russian vector of the second Merkel Cabinet’s foreign policy: some aspects of history. P.58-73.

The paper focuses on the history of Russian-German relationships in 2009–2013 when the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) was ruled by a coalition of Christian Democratic Union/ Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) and the Free Democratic Party (FDP). This coalition is also known as the Angela Merkel’s second cabinet. The author of the article explains his reasons for concentrating on this period, he singles out the major landmarks of Russian-German relationships, and centers on the key events of the aforementioned period.
The author maintains that Angela Merkel’s second term was characterized by both tradition and innovation in Berlin’s policy towards Russia. He states that during the rule of this Conservative-Liberal coalition (2009–2013) this line of German foreign policy turned out to be less fruitful than during the previous period.
