Professor Vassily Ivanovich Kuryshev is a founder of Ryazan research school in the sphere of satellite astronomy, a founder and a supervisor of a satellite tracking station (at Ryazan State Pedagogical Institute) of the Astronomical Union of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. The scientist raised the qualification standard of astronomy teaching methodology at Ryazan State Pedagogical Institute and organized systematic pedagogical activities with students and schoolchildren. The article provides the Professor’s biography and treats his works in the sphere of general astronomy, satellite astronomy, astronomy teaching methodology.
