A.S. Pushkin’s literary heritage against the cultural and historical background of 19th century Ryazan: A.V. Antonov’s poetry. P. 113-123.

A.V. Antonov’s poetry was a significant phenomenon of Ryazanian literary life in the 19th century. His name stands apart among other names of cultural and historical figures of the Ryazan region. A.V. Antonov was born into a merchant’s family, received a rather mediocre education and was constantly busy with self-development. His family and his inner circle never understood his yearning for self-improvement and literary work. He tried himself in the genre of fables, where he imitated I.A. Krylov’s style, and in the genre of lyric poetry, where he was inspired by A.S. Pushkin’s works. The present article focuses on the influence A.S. Pushkin’s literary heritage had on A.V. Antonov’s literary work. It focuses on A.V. Antonov’s attempts to imitate and interpret A.S. Pushkin’s motifs. The analysis of Ryazanian album culture of the early 19th century shows that young noblemen of the Ryazan region of the period believed A.S. Pushkin to be just an ordinary poet. A.V. Antonov, on the other hand, managed to see the genius and chose him to be his “teacher” and “interlocutor”. A.S. Pushkin’s novel in verse “Eugene Onegin” inspired A.V. Antonov to start his novel in verse “Philistine”, which unfortunately was never finished. The article acquaints the readers with some archival findings that unveil some obscure moments of the Ryazanian poet’s life and literary work.
