The article centers on a complex, contradictory process of the formation of a new system of international relations and analyzes its origins. The author maintains that international relations is a segment of Social Practice which focuses on intricate patterns of cause-effect relationships of the past, the present, and the future. The modern world order results from the geopolitical reconfiguration of the global space in the late 20th century, starting with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
