The category of identity in the Russian language has two semantic variants: identity to oneself and identity to others. The semantic variant of identity to oneself has both nuclear and peripheral meanings, which are realized with certain variability. The meaning of uniqueness, selectivity, lack of variability presupposes a free choice of only one option among many. The paper singles out the following semantic variants of uniqueness: preference, individuality, compliance with one’s expectations, peculiarity, singularity, elimination of variability.
