The Genesis of Prison Administration in Provincial Russia (at the example of the Ryazan Province) P.7 –16

Abstract. The article investigates the genesis of prison administration in the Russian Empire in the late 17th — early 19th centuries. The authors analyze archival materials, historical and legal sources. They investigate
the history of prison administration at the example of the Ryazan Province, assessing the unique and universal features of the process of recruiting, analyzing prison officials’ social status and their job functions.
