The paper focuses on the role social and political processes in Post-Soviet Russia have played in the formation of social attitude to Russian history and history teaching methodology. The paper deals with the factors that are perquisite to the creation of a new history textbook. The paper provides a preliminary analysis of a draft Historical and Cultural Standard that has been prepared by a group of scholars and methodologists. The authors’ comments can help to improve the new history textbook.
