The article deals with the professional career of Vassily Ilyich Lytkin, a Doctor of Phi-lology at Ryazan State University named for S.A. Yessenin, an outstanding specialist in Finno-Ugric languages, a member at the USSR Academy of Sciences, head of the Department of the Russian Language of Ryazan State University named for S.A. Yessenin. This period of V.I. Lytkin’s life is underresearched. That’s why we know about some facts of his life, such as V.I. Lytkin’s pedagogical activity, his research in the area of Finno-Ugric languages and Russian dialectology, the difficult circumstances of his life in post-revolutionary Russia, only from the archives of Ryazan State University named for S.A. Yessenin. V.I. Lytkin’s selfless labor, his will power, and his talent let him make a significant contribution to the Komi and Perm linguis-tics. For his services to the country V.I. Lytkin was awarded the Saint George’s Cross. In 1946 he was awarded the medal For Valorous Work during World War II, in 1975 he was awarded an order of People’s Friendship, he became a member of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, a Meritorious Scholar of the Komi Republic, he was given the State Award of the Komi Republic in the name of I.A. Kuratov.
