The analysis of numerous works of Russian and foreign authors is used to investigate the current state and perspectives of Latin American higher education, which is characterized by its historical and cultural peculiarities predetermined by the social and economic factors of the area development, national identification, the potential of internationalization, and integration on the subregional, regional, territorial and global levels. Latin America has a powerful educational potential. Pursuing integration, Latin American countries secure higher education reforms. Though Latin American higher education system has undergone certain modernization, for example, the number of engineering graduates has increased, it doesn’t meet the economic, social, political, and cultural requirements. Economic growth leads to labor market extension and ensures students’ involvement. Latin America occupies a significant segment in the global education market (15 % of primary school children, 12 % of secondary school children, 25 % of university students from developing countries). Latin American education system is better than education systems of many other developing countries. However, further economic growth requires qualitative rather than quantitative reforms.
