Article purpose — to reconstruct a visual image of N.M. Yadrintsev as oblastnik, the post-reform intellectual in portraits and photos, and also memories of them. A framework of research covers Siberia of the second half XIX — the beginnings of the XXI centuries. N.A. Chikanova has found out motives of popularity of images of N.M. Yadrintsev both in pre-revolutionary, and in the Soviet and modern editions. The author has come to a conclusion that N.M. Yadrintsev’s portraits became the “place of memory” of inhabitants of Siberia necessary for designing of feeling of a national, ethnic, territorial community, than their special popularity during the periods of change of political ideologies and public outlooks speaks.
