J.P. Polonsky’s Memoirs in the Context   of Russian Romanticism in the 1820s–1840s. P. 168-173.

The paper treats J.P. Polonsky’s memoirs as a part of Russian romanticism, which highlights the peculiarities of the poet’s prosaic works. These memoirs written by J.P. Polonsky at the end of his life were treated as Russian literary heritage immediately after their publication. J.P. Polonsky’s memoirs are of significant value because they contain names of outstanding writers and poets who were personally acquainted with J.P. Polonsky (I.S. Turgenev, for example). J.P. Polonsky’s reminiscences of his child-hood, the beginning of his literary career, his infatuations and his poetic taste are accompanied by true and precise characterization of the 1820s and 1840s. To create the image of the leaving epoch, J.P. Polonsky employs literary devices developed by representatives of romanticism in the 19th century. By using fragmentary narration, powerful lyrical voice, interrupted plot, mosaic character of life, the au-thor manages to recreate the reality through the prism of romanticism. J.P. Polonsky’ memoirs supply plenty information about the reality of romanticism and a sample of romantic memoirs
