The History of Architectural Conservation Volunteerism in the 1960s–1980s. P.75-81.

The article treats the history of volunteer historic building conservation project initiated by the All-Russian Society for the Preservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments in the 1960s–1980s. The author analyzes the society’s efforts aimed at supporting a network of volunteer development agencies that promote and enable architectural conservation volunteering (patronage over cultural and historical monuments, lectures and excursions, etc.). The article deals with the formation of the student conserva-tion groups organized by Moscow students as a result of students’ social initiatives. The author maintains that the composition of volunteers became more democratic in the 1980s due to the redefinition of the organization and volunteers’ personal involvement in architectural conservation. The article analyzes the documentation of the All-Russian Society for the Preservation of Historical and Cultural Monuments (State Archive of the Russian Federation) and focuses on the memoirs of volunteers, which provide fac-tual and emotional information and complete information acquired from other sources.
