A RUSSIAN POET’S FATE: Review of L. F. Alekseeva’s monograph “Vassily Alexandrovich Sumbatov — a Russian Poet of the 20th Century”(Moscow : Moscow State Regional University, 2017. 299 р.)

The present review focuses on a famous Russian literary researcher L. F. Alekseeva’s monograph “Vassily Alexandrovich Sumbatov — a Russian Poet of the 20th Century”, which was published in 2017. The reviewed monograph investigates the literary legacy of V. A. Sumbatov, whose literary work is only known to literary researchers of Russian literature of the 20th century. The analyzed monograph acquaints researchers and readers with the life and work of V. A. Sumbatov, a poet, a playwright, a veteran of World War I, a veteran of the Russian Civil War, and a participant of the Italian resistance movement. The five chapters of the monograph analyze V. A. Sumbatov’s lyrical works, autobiographical prose, drama, and epistolary works, which remain to be investigated by researchers and readers inspired by Russian literature of the 20th century.
